After working for the Social Security Administration for several years, Jim realized that people needed more attention and support than they were able to get from the SSA.

That experience inspired him to create a new kind of company, focused on helping people with chronic health conditions access the life-changing benefits they need.

More than 30 years later, what started as a one-man company has grown into an organization of hundreds of professionals headquartered in Belleville, Illinois. Allsup and its affiliates are innovators of specialized services and technologies that help meet the financial and healthcare needs of Americans with disabilities. Allsup is a nationwide, premier provider of Social Security disability representation, veterans disability appeal, return to work, exchange plan and healthcare insurance services for individuals, employers and insurance carriers. Since opening its doors in 1984, Allsup has helped more than 300,000 people receive $22.8 billion in SSDI payments and Medicare benefits.

It’s impossible to describe our CEO’s professional achievements without touching on the history of our business, because Jim’s personal career is so closely intertwined with the business he has built. Read on to learn more about both.

Jim landed a position as a field representative with the Social Security Administration after graduation from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He left this position four years later, inspired to establish the first professional, non-attorney provider of SSDI representation services. That original company was named Allsup & Associates, and by the time it became Allsup, LLC, it had made a mark on the SSDI process that survives today.

Jim Allsup represented customers in groundbreaking ways, helping them win benefits with initial applications, instead of just waiting for a denial to step in and assist with appeals. He also changed the way SSDI representatives were paid, which resulted in the creation of the SSA-1696-U4 form used today. Allsup’s approach truly paved the way for a better kind of SSDI experience: True Help.

Only seven years after starting the business, Allsup broke ground for construction of a 53,000-square-foot corporate headquarters. Around this same time, Jim Allsup leveraged his status as an SSDI authority to help break legislative barriers for people with disabilities. Jim was highly influential in the legislative clarification of the 1993 Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, which mandated that Medicare become primary payer for non-working disabled employees. He also testified before the House and Senate in Washington, D.C., sharing his intimate knowledge of SSDI to shed light on this and other issues.

Allsup’s success was recognized in wider professional circles as well. In 1992, Allsup received its third consecutive Inc. 500 award, which recognizes America’s fastest-growing private companies. In 2006, the Better Business Bureau presented Allsup its prestigious Torch Award for world-class customer service.

Jim Allsup was recognized by the Invisible Disabilities Association with their Advocacy Award in 2009. The next year, Allsup was a finalist in the 2010 BBB International Torch Awards for Marketplace Excellence. Jim and his company also received the Distinguished Corporate Partner Award for Excellence in 2014, presented by the John Cook School of Business at Saint Louis University.

National recognition and responsibility for steering a company offering nationwide SSDI services has not separated Jim Allsup from his roots in Belleville, just 15 miles outside St. Louis, Missouri. Jim is a member of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce. He also shares his professional experiences as sponsor and presenter for the Allsup Entrepreneurship Academy, a summer academy for high school students offered through Saint Louis University (SLU).

David Doeren

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Allsup & President, Allsup Employment Services

David Doeren is executive vice president and chief operating officer, where he oversees a broad range of products and services that re-establish income sources and coordinate public and private benefits for those with disabilities. He reports to Jim Allsup, founder, chairman and CEO.

David is an experienced claims management and business professional having worked more than 15 years in disability services with added years as a research analyst. He joined the company in February 2012 as a national sales manager, and has held the positions of national account director, vice president, national accounts and business development, and most recently was vice president and head of sales, marketing and account management.

Today, David oversees the company’s executive team and daily operations, implementation of business strategies and performance, development of business objectives, corporate culture and growth initiatives. Allsup’s services include Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation, veterans disability appeals, return to work, healthcare benefits services for individuals, insurance carriers and employers.

Prior to joining the company, Doeren held positions of increasing authority with group benefits carrier Liberty Mutual, including severe case manager, team manager and senior group benefits consultant. In these roles, he developed specialized knowledge of short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), statutory benefits, group life benefits and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) administration.

David earned a MBA from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. He holds a bachelor of economics degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence and has participated in various professional development courses, including Miller Heiman’s Large Account Management ProgramSM (LAMP®).

LeighAnn Jarry

Vice President

LeighAnn Jarry has more than 18 years of experience in the disability insurance industry as a technical expert and advocate for those seeking Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits and returning to work through the federal insurance program.

In her position, LeighAnn is responsible for overseeing Allsup Employment Services (AES) sales and operations units. She leads efforts within the organization to define and launch growth opportunities, to improve outreach about the federal Ticket to Work Program, and to ensure quality services are provided to individuals who are returning to work as SSDI beneficiaries.

Allsup Employment Services, a subsidiary of Allsup, LLC, is a Social Security Administration-authorized Employment Network offering nationwide employment services and assistance. LeighAnn joined Allsup, LLC, in 2017, following prior leadership roles in sales, client relations, account management and operations for disability insurance organizations.

Most recently, LeighAnn was the Assistant Vice President of Strategic Planning where she oversaw Allsup companywide initiatives to advance innovation and strategic growth. She proactively identified, defined and championed new growth opportunities while ensuring coordination across multiple internal organizations and external partners.

LeighAnn holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts and EDPNA Certification from the Social Security Administration.

Diane Winiarski

Director

Diane Winiarski has 30 years of experience in medical management, vocational rehabilitation and placement services through a variety of roles in managed care, disability and insurance organizations.

She serves as Director of Allsup Employment Services (AES), a national SSA-authorized Employment Network (EN) and oversees AES experts providing specialized help to people with disabilities who are returning to work through the Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work (TTW) program. Prior to taking the role, she was Director of Vocational Rehabilitation Services for AES, whose services include career planning, benefits counseling, ongoing employment support and employment retention services.

Prior to AES, Winiarski worked at Symetra Life Insurance Company, The Hartford Insurance Company and Aetna Life Insurance Company in vocational case management positions. Her certifications include Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Certified Disability Management Specialist (CDMS), Certified Case Manager (CCM), and Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS).

She holds a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation and a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Health Sciences in psychiatric rehabilitation/general counseling from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Cindy Ratermann

Director of Operations

Cindy Ratermann, Director of Operations for Allsup Employment Services (AES), has more than three decades of experience with Allsup LLC and its subsidiaries. AES is a national, Social Security Administration (SSA)-authorized Employment Network (EN) providing services for the Ticket to Work Program (TTW).

Cindy began her career with SSA as a claims representative and then transitioned to Allsup where she assisted individuals with seeking Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits. In her current role, Cindy helps individuals approved for Social Security disability benefits return to work through the TTW Program. She oversees AES vocational support services, work incentive and program education, customer service, and accounting-related functions. She ensures the AES team is in constant contact with Ticket holders and supports them throughout their experience with the TTW Program.

Cindy has a strong background of working with federal regulatory programs to ensure compliance and adherence. In addition, she is an accomplished leader with a track record of success, driving results from large teams while ensuring a high level of customer service and technical expertise. She is responsible for streamlining all processes and procedures in an SSDI beneficiary’s journey of returning to work. Cindy manages efforts to help SSDI beneficiaries understand the requirements of the TTW Program, find success with their return to work, and utilize work-related incentives available to them in the program.

Cindy prides herself on combining her technical knowledge, people skills, and dedication to help those with disabilities make a difference in their lives. She is adept at communicating with employees at every level of the company, gaining consensus and explaining complex concepts so the AES team can provide the best support possible for customers. Cindy thrives on change and uses it as the catalyst to excel in her daily work life.

Cindy lives in Albers, Illinois, with her husband, Rob. They enjoy family time, camping and boating. Their family includes two daughters and a son.
